Are These Good Companions?

My DPs live happily with Amano shrimps, cherry shrimps and a couple of orange shrimps, although they will eat any tiny shrimp babies they can catch. For some strange reason, my male cherries stay out in the open a lot more than the females.

Some Dps will attack shrimps and some don't. It's all down to the individual DP's personality. If you put plenty of bogwood and moss and plants in there, at least the shrimps have somewhere to hide. Also, when you introduce the shrimps, don't do it during dinner time  Maybe put them in when the lights are out.

Maybe you can test it by adding a cheap shrimp like a ghost shrimp to your tank to see how the DP reacts.

My dwarf puffers lived in a tank with a small number of cherry shrimp for many many months. I should mention though that these were pretty pale cherries as my colony goes, and their pale coloration may have helped them stay incognito.

I've heard some dwarf puffers like to munch on shrimp however. Proceed with caution.

puffers being puffers would love shrimps actually, but then again they may leave them alone for other reasons. there's no absolute true or false here.

I've been quite lucky so far with all the adult shrimps being left alone in all 3 DP tanks but I can assure you that they love baby shrimps. I see them get super excited when they spot a shrimplet and they will hang around certain places waiting for their snacks to come out. Crustaceans are their natural food after all.

I think feeding them on time and enough have kind of prevented the adults being attacked. My Amano shrimps were badly nipped when I went away for two weeks (DPs were fed only once during that time).
