Coral Catfish
Dwarf Fuzzy Lion

I saw these guys in a store yesterday and was wondering what size tank I'd need to be looking at for keeping them? I'd consider myself an ethical fishkeeper and wouldn't want to just cram them for the sake of it.

Many thanks!

Interesting animal. The coral catfish is a TRUE SW catfish. It has several names including the Saltwater Catfish or Striped Eel Catfish. The classification is Plotosus lineatus. They can reach 12 inches and recommended tank size is 250 gallons or more. SH

oh yeah..has poisonous spines. SH

Eek.

Yeah, I saw both of these yesterday while checking out a marine store, and they were both labelled as venomous. The coral catfish were tiny, had no idea they were such tankbusters.

Still, the fuzzy dwarf lion is something to consider!

Thanks for all knowledge imparted :)

I thought the fuzzy dwarf lions grew to around 6 inches? I always considered them a 55 or bigger myself.

Looked it up: max size is listed as 6.7 inches but it does say min tank size 30 gal so I guess it would be ok in a tank that small.

it's because they don't really need any swimming room, they pretty much just perch behind a rock most of the time. I have one in my tank and the only time he really swims is when he swims over to my HOB filter to "perch" behind it and wait for food. (thats where i feed him krill)

Here is is peching next to a his favorite coral

here is the tank he is in, it's toward the bottom, and he is doing great.
