Are barbs and tetras compatible with each other...I was thinking of adding cardinal tertas to my addition of tiger barbs...Will this do???

Are barbs and tetras compatible with each other...
In general, yes, they are generally peaceful, have similar requirements etc. There are, of course, rules and exceptions. There are some very big tetras and very small barbs, (opposite also applies), fish of vastly different size should not really be mixed.

Some "tetras" are out and out killers and being front toothed, are efficient at the job. Piranha, Exodons, Hoplias etc. etc. will kill other fish of any type.

Here is another conundrum. Tiger Barbs are amongst the most aggresive of barbs for their size. They will nip and chase other fish. That said, in a large enough group, typically 6+ fish, they tend to keep themselves to themselves if they do not have trailing finned tank mates.

If your tank is large enough to keep a good number of Tiger Barbs and a good number of Cardinals, then they probably will be okay as the tetras will be able to keep out of the way of the barbs, although they may carry a stress loading. If the tank is well planted, or otherwise has a lot of cover, so much the better. It is not an ideal set up however. TB's are frequently kept in species tanks or with some fish well able to take care of themselves.

I personally wouldn't do it.
