As the title says ... bought some of these cheap today with the intention of putting them in my filter in a net bag, but are they okay?

They're from wilkos and labelled 'natural pumice'. I was planning to break them up and use them like that.

Is it safe though? I just want someone to tell me before I put them in my new filter and risk my fish!

They're excellant, also providing some habitat for anaerobes to digest nitrates if they are large enough. They also have the beneit of being pH neutral or slighlt acidic which makes them an idela biomedia for Amamzon biotope tanks.

Thank you for your reply, good to know it will make a good filter media - going on your comment about the size of pieces, should I break them up into 2cmish pieces or leave them as massive blocks?

The goal is to have lots of surface exposed to the water flow while not ending up with just crumbs that won't stay put. 1 to 2 cm pieces would be about right.
