HI EVERYONE!!! I am new to this site and a new fishy owner. I bought them for my children and I am surprised at how much I LOVE them!! LOL! :) ( I spoil them rotten) Anyways, we got them about 2.5 weeks ago. My white platy looked pregnant when we got her, but the red one was a skinny normal size fish. They are both getting big and although I have read a bunch of things about platys, I would still like your opinions. I remember when I was little and we had guppies. We had a little tank we hooked to the side on the inside of the big tank. Should I get something like that (if they are pregnant of course) or is there something else that would be better? Are there any signs they are about to pop? My white one's poop was normal when I was taking these pics (as you can see lol!) but now it is weird. And she is going A LOT! So just curious. :) THANKS IN ADVANCE! :)

I hope someone responds soon. I am so new at this and I don't want to screw it up! LOL! I think they are pregnant and we are all really excited! I just want to make sure I go about it the right way. :) THANK YA'ALL!

Bummed no one has replied yet, but I am going with my gut and going to say that the white is not only prego, but I think she is going to have her fry SOOOOOON!! She is usually pretty crazy and all over the place. Really fun to watch but in the last couple hours she has slowed down and is hiding in one of the caves. She wouldn't come out to eat and those little dark spots above her anal fin are very evident now and some look orange...is that normal? Or am I reading too much into this? I am just sooo excited! :)

The white one is looking nicely squared up and with the one hiding and refusing to eat that is a sure sign she is ready to drop within the next day or so. If you are wanting to save her fry I would advise getting a breeding net/trap sharpish otherwise it will be a case of letting them fend for themselves.

She looks a bit thinner today, but I don't see any babies. WE have a blue guarami (sp) and I think he ate anything she dropped.. :( Hopefully not and I either just don't see them to she hasn't had them yet. My hubby is off to get the net right now! :)

There is a good chance that she ate them herself if she dropped.

With most platies it is hard to see the black dot unless they are a very light colouring because their colours are usually to vibrant. However nearly every platy that i have ever owned (females of both very colourful and pale) all the babies have been either bright orange or yellow or red but usually orange.
So the usual test for guppys mollys platies is when they have a black dot (gravid spot) they are pregnant and when you can see little tiny eyes that means they are ready to 'pop'. Another sign is the female becoming less active and more on her own in quiet areas of the tank.

So based on all of that and my experience - She is going to have some babies very soon and the orange you can see is probably the fry saying that they want to come out! to be on the safe side you could always put a picture on here of her with orange? but i doubt much that its anything to worry about.

And the other platy is DEFINITELY pregnant too! :D let me know if you nedd anything else :) x x x
