My smallest comet has been getting black marks in various places. I've read online that they can either be brusing ammonia burns. My ammonia levels are normal (and no other fish are affected by this), just the little guy, and it's only on one side. (Don't worry, he's only in the goldfish bowl for pictures)

You can see where his tail has split.

Could it just be that they like picking on poor Howard, or is it an infection that I should remove the fish immediately?

I have not seen this sort of thing before so I cannot give you advice on the type of injury.

But I would suggest to observe the fish in the tank. Do you see them chasing the little one?

Do you have features in the tank, rocks, and such like? It could be that the other fish are chasing Howard and he is bumping into features in the tank as he tries to escape them.

If the bigger fish are indeed bullying him then you would probably have to put him in a separate tank. These kind of injuries make the fish very susceptible to infections. I lost one of my fish in that way; she knocked herself against a feature in the tank and from that developed an abscess, which killed her in the end :( .

It say's in brackets that he's only in the bowl for the pictures  Makes sense, he has nowhere to hide from the camera!

I must say though he's a beautiful fish. I love his colouration. Not one I've seen very often with the pale gold with black edged fins.
