So I am wondering if I am overfeeding my fish.... it's a distinct possibility as I'm Italian and overfeeding comes naturally.

I have 6 skirt tetras in a 20g tank. I feed twice a day and skip feedings on Sunday. When I feed them they initially go after the food and take some in. Then there will still be food in the tank but they stop eating. I feed a variety of foods - krill and Tetra flakes, freeze dried and frozen blood worms, brine shrimp, daphnia.

After about 30 - 60 seconds of eating whatever food I put in the tank (which they all seem to go for) they stop eating. I'm assuming they are just full and I should cut back a bit on the food?

Sounds reasonable to me. You need to cut back on the feeding and do you have any bottom feeders, snails, etc to eat up what your tetras don't.

No - I do not have anything in the tank but the tetras. I might cut back to once a day or try to convince myself that none of them are going to starve if I don't put so much food in the tank at each feeding. IT'S SO HARD! Is there a support group for over-feeders?

I have always heard the best therapy is helping others, so start one. You can call it Over Fish Feeding Anonymous or OFFA for short. (Just Kidding)......... :dunno:

Just get you some cleaners and bottom feeders to help with the excess food. Snails are good.

I love it! We'll start every meeting like this: "Hello, I'm Joann. It's been 3 hours since I last overfed my fish". (Support Group responds in unison): "Hi, Joann".

Bwahahahaha I'm rolling! Clapping and smiling in support. I hope that is me someday... .getting supportive smiles and claps for not overfeeding. #goals

Hello, I am also Italian and overfeed my fish and everything in the house. It has been one half hour since the last feeding and I do not want to send them to bed with an empty stomach. Breakfast is a long time from now.

You have to follow the one day at a time step plan, and get an OFFA buddy to help you stay on track.... :drinks:

Welcome to OFFA, everyone gives a round of welcomes... We all know how hard it is to not overfeed our fish, but you have taken the first step to recovery by joining us tonight.... :fish:

Hahaha I love you guys!!

Is it possible to give a smaller pinch of food each time you feed them? The tetras likely won't swim to the bottom to pick at the leftover flakes, so I don't see anything wrong with feeding them twice a day if you're able to give them an amount that they fully consume in the 30sec timeframe.

*Watches as group of OFFA members get out their pitchforks to brandish me out of the gathering for even suggesting that frequent feedings are ok :D*
