Hi as some of you know i inherited two angel fish of my grandads friend.Only had them 2 weeks. As i was watching them this morning i noticed that the larger one ( about 4 inches body width not including fins) was liplocking the smaller one ( about 3.5 inches body width) not agressively them it started sucking at the smaller ones poop hole. Does anyone think i have i male and female if so are they trying to breed. Thanks

Could be. Never tried to breed angels but I know they like swordfern to lay eggs on. Cichlids also liplock when fighting but if it isn't aggressive they may be a pair. Good luck.

Thanks i will leave them to it and see what happens. Just my luck that they are a pair cos ive only had them two weeks. Anybody else got any advice.

If they're mega territorial and aggressive that might be an indication. If you want to attempt a spawn, a piece of slate for them to lay eggs on might be a good idea :)

They are not being aggressive at all but they chase any fish what comes near them sometimes.

They will start cleaning a rock if they are going to breed. i myself get this all the time but they end up eating them or puting them where there is too much current after they hatch.

Just watch them for a day or so. Dont let them get to rough. Have they been raised together.? Or do you no. If they are chasing away the other fish then that is what they are getting ready to do. With angels you never no. I have had them pair up before and then turn on wach other. So you really just have to wait and see. Because they can get rough.

Angel Lady: I guess they were raised together my grandads friend who i got them off bought them at the same time from the same tank they are both gold angels one is noticibly bigger than the other. Every night when i watch them they are always cleaning the filter ( i have a juwel tank), they have been doing this since i got them two weeks ago. They do chase the other fish when they come too close sometimes. I have only ever seen them liplocking once they were not doing it aggressively though. I guess i will just have to wait and see.

The only time i've ever seen lip locking is when mine fight with each other (then they're separate cuz i can't take it). the pair i do have are so sweet with each other and only chase other fish away when spawning. maybe your little ones are going to try and spaw near on the filter. my fish have spawned on leaves, rocks, even the glass wall once but that was a disaster for them lol.

Angels are as individual as people when it comes to pairing. Some do a little nip & chase at the beginning & that's it. Some battle constantly when they aren't actively spawning. Some get so brutal they end up killing their mate, others are incredibly docile. They're all different.

Keep a close eye on them, don't want any casualties. Generally speaking, the male is usually the larger of the pair, due to the female's energy going towards producing eggs.
