Are goldfish flakes ok for tropical fish?

I have half a dozen unopened containers of goldfish flakes that came with different aquarium kits. My lfs told me that it was "fine" to feed the goldfish flakes to tropical fish, such as platies and swordtails. Is this true? I'm just worried the formula for goldfish food does not contain enough vitamins and nutrients for tropical fish.

I would not be feeding the goldfish flakes exclusively- I'd be feeding them a variety of different kinds of food.

I'd say that if you are using it as a supplement to other foods then it is fine.

I always mix it in with my tropical flakes. It's fine.

it should be ok just dont feed them on their own - either too much protein or too little. dont remember which!
