Are Food Storage Containers Safe?

As the topic title says - are they safe?
Am interested in buying these to convert into box filters as they have nice tight-fitting lids BUT are they safe? Or do they have some kind of additive (antibacterial or similar) to keep food fresh that may harm the fish?
