As thinking of getting some, and how many in a 12gal tank.

You could get about 6 in a 12 gallon quite comfortably. As for hardy, as long as the water conditions are up to spec they should be fine. They are pretty resillient, and since they don't have the long fins of the male you can have some flow of water in the tank which helps too.

Plenty of hiding places for them so they can get out of each others faces for a timeout and you should be good to go :)

Thanks glod think there so cute.
Tweety dying my ranchu goldfish so i'm going to swap fish around in a while, so it leaves a tank spare/

Yeah about 6 should be good in a 12g, and hiding places are VERY important!! I love the females though! They are just sooo adorable! Good luck! :good:

I would actually say you could get away with 7 or 8, if you just went females. I have 6 and 3 corys in a 10g.
Honestly, I know a lot of people will say " lots of cover and hiding places ". These fish are not going to be constantly fighting. I have 2 pots, a rock, a fake plant, and a small coral decoration with the majority of the tank being just open swimming space. These females develop a very close bond, guarding the algae wafer from the corys while taking turns eating it, they all swim to the same are to get ready for food, no signs of aggression at all. The first few days to a week will be tough, but after that your really home free (unless its a female that turns male).

It depends how agressive the females you have are. If you have siblings that have been raised together and always lived together you are much more likely to have less agression. However mine are siblings and one of the girls is reall big and rather agressive. I have more than enough hiding places for each fish and a massive plant. The cories get totally ignored though so they are great tank mates.

zoekin is right. i have this really big fat female that sometimes chases all the other ones away when they get near her. if they are all about the same size, i dont think you should have a problem

Thanks everyone for the replys, hubby wants me to strip the tank down now so we have more room in the kitchen.
But haven't made my mind up yet.
Tweety died R.I.P. My little cutie.

if you haven't bought them yet you should follow the rule 1 inch of fish per gallon-
maybe 6????
ya not all females get along. I've seen alot of females who just flare like a male at her reflection
And i tried to breed a pair the female totally shredded the male!!!! :-(

No haven't got them yet, researching first.

Thanks stang1.

oh no poor tweety! sorry for your loss! Bettas would make a lovely addition if you do deside to get some.

When you lose one of your favourite fish you don't always wan't to carry on.
Having a good think about it for now.
But thanks.
