I have six danios in a ten-gallon. I noticed today that the temperature was a little high, so I wanted to leave the hood open to let the air circulate some. The water is about an inch or inch and a half below the edge. Is it ok to leave the hood open, or will there be carpet-surfing?

(Side note: I always keep the water a bit low (at least an inch) because I once had a molly jump out and die, and I am afraid of it happening again.)

Yep, they'll jump - keep the hood down. I've had a couple of danios die this way (and the hood was actualy on! They went through holes in the wood where the equipments' wires etc go through).

edit: do a water change with (slightly) cooler water to lower the temp.

Ok, thanks!

I think I will do a water change and add an air stone instead of opening the hood. :)
