Are they waterproof, as I get quite a bit of water on my standard tubes, and dont want to fry my fish :)

and I want to fit the cold cathode tubes, I have 2 12" ones but not sure if they will actually be bright enough, 12v only just lights them both up fully, 6v only lights them half way

There not 100% water proof, but splash proof, i bought mine on ebay off razer-opto, he modifies them himself for aquarium use.

I have them in my discus tank at moment where they get saturated with condensation and i,ve had no problems what so ever, i'm planning on getting a few more sets.

Since you said that you got yours from a PC Supplier they would be most likely 12v DC in which case you wouldn't have to Worry about frying your fish. BUT and this is a Mighty BIG "BUT".

Unless you take Every Step to Waterproof Every Nook and Cranny of it, It won't Last 24hrs.
This is including every inch of the Wire as well.
To Waterproof it you'll need Aquarium Safe Silicone Chaulk avaliable at your LPS.

I build PC's and I really see NO Way of 100% Waterproofing one of these.

Although I've seen them advertised a time or two in Pet Supply Catalogs, But they are quite Pricey.
But if you want something that'll Last and be Safe for your Fish, It's Worth the Extra Cost.

As far as the ones off of Ebay that have been Modifed to Work with Aquariums, If they are 120v I wouldn't Risk using them because if the Chance of Frying the Fish, Let alone Myself.

but then again thats Me, and not anyone else. :look:

The cold catode on ebay are AC-DC varible voltage adapter that runs from 0 to 12v so its safe, he seals them in tubes with acrilic ends siliconns the wire.
