So I was at some lfs, guy told me he had cherry shrimp and they were only $2.50 so I told him to get me 5.. Didn't look at them in the store.. I look at them now that I'm home.. and they're BLUE???

BLUE? cherry shrimp?

What did I just come home with?

oh great.. Some sort of artificially colored shrimp..

''. Either way, in addition to the fact that these imported animals are usually in a terrible shape and die within a few days or weeks, none of them will produce blue offspring if you are lucky enough to keep them alive and get them to breed. Currently, there is no real blue shrimp in the hobby anywhere in the world.''

Well thats re-assuring. Thanks LFS!!

They look fine so far.. I hope they will get along with my ghost shrimp..

Some water issues here killed a couple shrimp and 2 of my apple snails.. so had to buy something new. It rained for 21 days straight here. Towards the end of the 21 days it rained for about 50 hours straight, and hard. Ended up messing up our tap water. All sorts of people locally reported having dead fish because of it. Ph came out of the tap around 5.0.. Which was not good considering I keep my snails at around 7.8

Some pics of the new shrimp.. they don't look very blue in the tank, but in the clear bucket they sure looked blue. The little yellow snail is new. Don't need new snails, but figured I'd add some new blood to the tank.

Also got some ramshorn snails.. they're pretty weird looking.. one is kinda blue/grey, couple weird striped ones. They're in with the apple snails until I get rid of some fish. The apple snails are moving to a 40g. The ramshorns will stay in this tank.

They actually look kinda red in the tank.. more of a reddish black.. I'm confused definitely. They don't seem to like my ghost shrimp.. Hopefully they wont kill each other.

Nice shrimp, not much of a fan of snails but its got a nice red color

Ever keep snails? I didn't like them for the longest time. I've kept fish for 10+ years and I got my first snails about a month ago.

Love your ramshorn snails and shrimps :D

Wow nice pics, I have a few of the blue shrimps but I dont think they are dyed as they han change to clear then back to blue.Yeh those a re very interesting looking rams, you could probably sell them quite easily.

I should have paid better attention when she was picking the snails.. Should have got a couple of each weird color and selectively breed them. Oh well, they can all breed together and see what comes out.

My baby apple snails are starting to color up, and 2 new clutches appeared yesterday. Snails have been busy with each other for the last 4 days straight. Everytime I look in the tank at least 2 of them are going at it.

Their shells aren't looking great though, I've noticed some new erosion. Been trying to keep the ph high, and I've been adding calcium.

i have been reading about shell erosion lately, and a lot of snail keepers say that they dont get there calcium intake from the water but from there food,
so food high in calcium is the way to go....

imo i think the more calcium in the water the better it wont hurt thats for sure also crushed coral, and cuttlebone
along with the calcium rich vegies .
i am going to try dandilion leaves if i can find some, these are supposed to be a great sorce of calcium, the young fresh leaves before they flower are better there not so bitter, just blanch them for a while then feed to the snails,
parsley, watercress etc are also very good.
