my mom thinks all fish are difficult to maintain but i can tell she wants a betta.i ask her and she says no you have your hands full with the baby fish and the mollies.i just wanted to see if bettas are hard to take care of or are they easy

Betta's are a sinch to take care of. You can feed them anywhere from once every other day to 2 times a day. They don't need a filter, or arator but you need to do frequent water changes if you don't run a filter. I am one of the laziest people on the planet, and if I can take care of betta's, anyone can.

bettas are easy to take care of. the only thing you really have to worry about are the water changes, if your tank is not filtered. mine aren't, and i do a full water change every 7 days, sooner if the water looks cloudy. other than that, there's nothing to it!

i wouldnt say they are "easy" to take care of but they arent seahorses either... :D
make sure your betta has at least 1 gallon of space (preferably long not tall so he can swim back and forth) with a lid! (bettas like to jump.) you need to chage the water at least once a week too.
bettas need a heater unless the temp in your house is anywhere from 82-85 (bettas need around 80)

bettas can live with or without filtration, but if you have filtration you have to make sure the current is not strong. bettas dont appreciate turbulence.
i recommend feeding them hikari bio-gold and hikari bloodworms (fd or frozen) with some occasional treats as well. bettas are carnivores so they wont touch vegetable matter.

thanks everyone.i wanted to know because i thought about getting a betta that wanted me to take him home "or is it the dreaded betta-virus ."

Just wanted to say that this isn't exactly true. Yes, bettas are carnivores so they relish bloodworms and such, but the occasional vegetable matter is good for their digestion. Some may not touch it, but I still have yet to find a betta who will not attack defrosted and deshelled pea. Mine all LOVE it!!

i actually tricked one of mine into taking an herbivore pellet the other day but he wouldnt take another one after that... :shifty:

Put it this way.. I learned everything about the betta and how to take care of one in about 2 hours... I have 2 now, I'm helping an injured betta back to its normal state too. See sig. :D
