Hi I am about to recieve the arcadia 60L tank, I hastily bought the Fluval Edge 23L only to realise later they were basically lying about what fish are suitable for it. So am now returning it and have ordered the arcadia 60L. I know this is not considered perfectly ideal for a beginner but available room restricts me unfortunately (university student). I have got live plants for it as well. I was wondering what fish would be suitable for this tank i really like the schoaling effect, and also like guppies. Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Adam!

You could go with a shoal of 8 Neon Tetra, a pair of Honey Gourami and 8 Pygmy Corydoras. They would compliment a planted tank nicely :good:

You probably already know, but dont forget to cycle first :)

With regards to Guppies, unless you want a tank full of fry then either dont go for them or go for one sex.

Thankyou for the suggestion, would any tetras be suitable because I am not overly keen on the look of the neons :/ The gourami and corydoras look nice though.
I do know to cycle, I'm not going to uni for a few weeks so it'll have about three or four weeks to cycle with plants in. Would this be long enough?

Oh yes I know about the guppies breeding and was only thinking of around 3 males

Thank you again!

Hmm if you dont like Neon Tetra, you could look at Celestial Danio or possibly Chili Rasbora. The problem with some of the other Tetra species is that they grow fairly bulky and in some cases are quite fast swimming and require more space than you have to offer.

I found that the best thing to do is go look in your LFS, then research fish species online.

Have a look here for info on cycling:

If you can find someone local who can donate filter media to you then this would speed up your cycle.

One eye catching example is the rummy nose, would this be too big? Unfortunately I don't have anyone to donate but I am willing to wait for the water to be ok. I have been in the my LFS but there were too many I liked haha. Its going to be a slow process of adding them anyway, as I don't want an ammonia spike the nanos can induce :/

Hmm Rummies are quite active, I would steer away from them in a 60l. How about Black Neon Tetra?

Where abouts are you based? Here is the list of people willing to donate media:
