Ok since Hades has been moved to a 2 Gallon and a whole lot happier I have a 6G spare which I thought I'd turn into something stunning (don't know what yet) would the arcadia 11W arc pod be a good lighting system for this and give enough light for good plant growth?? Thanks x

Hi

I use 2 of the compacts that they supply with the arc pod for my aquaone tank they are prity bright and give of a pinkish glow so missing the green so will look duller than they really are but they have been made for plant growth it says on the box!

So do you think an 11w one would be ok for my tank then? Or will I need two? x

yeah I would say mines about 17G with 2 and seem bright so half my tank is 8.5g and yours is 6G so even smaller then that! I imagine you will only need one :) you might even get away with the 9W version! dsepends how bright you want it but I reakon ether would work!

if yuou want to grow plants i dont think it'll be strong enough i have 2 over my 6 gallon

I dont see why not as the bulb suplied has been made in the way for plants its a compact version of the orignal tropical lamp peaking in the red and blue spectrum and even though there 11w's each I think compact floresents tend to give out more light then normal t5' and t8 tubes . I admit they dont seem bright they give off a warm glow but what ive been told our eyes register green more hence why. Best thing to do is ask arcadia support they prity quick at replying!

Personally I wouldn't bother with arcpods any more.
There's nothing wrong with them at all, they are good lights-but they are expensive.

I paid £22 for one of mine (that's with a staff discount), where I could have just gone down to ikea and got a desk lamp that takes the same bulbs for £8  .

I've got plants in my fry tank which are growing happily under an arcadia 15W pygmy light so I can't see why they wouldn't be ok under an arc pod.

It depends on what you want to grow. Java Ferns and mosses should be OK, but for carpetting plants and red plants, forget it! 11W over a 6G is not a lot of light.

Short answer: yes for low light plants.

Dave.

in my freshwater tank ive always had the same lighting at 2x 15 w on a 60 litre. that puts me at 0.5 wpl. Not much i know yet ive still been able to grow loads and loads of plant i mean literaly i had a small ofcut and its turned into 60 different sprouts all independant and healthy

You have 30W over 16USG which isn`t too bad a light level. My 60l has 72W over it so that I can grow plants that will carpet the substrate.

Lower light doesn`t mean you can`t grow a lot of plants successfully, but it does limit their rate of growth and your choice of plants.

The WPG rule is not a linear function. Smaller tanks need proportionally more light than larger tanks to grow demanding plants.

Dave.
