I have recently acquired a free hex tank (12 inches wide and 16 high). It has a hood with a diy light built in. It's a 30 watt strip light which gives off rubbish light. Another member here, Mojodex, suggested ditching the hood and getting an ARC-POD so I would like to hear people's thoughts and experiences on this kind of lighting.
I would eventually like it to be a home for dwarf puffers and extremly heavily planted. At the moment I have a two-foot freshwater with only a 15w bulb and a reflector and the plants are really lush. I reckon I could pull it off in this hex too :D.

I also think I'd be aswell buying a new tank with proper equipment but I like the fact that the hex is quite tall. I don't like second hand but then I'm a bit snobby that way

Here's a pic of the tank that used to house a shubunkin which is now in our pond:

I don't think arcpods are so great because a) the light is not very strong and rather pink, B) the light shines in your eyes from the uncovered bit at the front. I ordered an 18w aquacube clip-on light which is excellent - all the light is directed downwards.

The arcpod rocks, I've had one on one of my tanks for over a year, and not had to change the bulb yet. A nice easy unit to use. The light is a bit pink, but it doesnt affect your viewing.
