i bought this aragonite sand and the guy at the fish store said it would turn into real sand with time.. I put it in about 2 weeks ago and its TURNING BROWN!!!!! Is is dieing or what's going on? my amonia , nitrate and hp are all good, water temps 78-80. Whats the deal here

So i can see that now its turning my fiji rock sorta a brown colorish, when i bought my rock they were white and now theyare turning brown. Is this normal or whats the hell is going on?

Diatoms probably...I suggest going up to the nano FAQ section and have a look. SH

it is normal and quite common for tanks to develop brown algae/diatoms. There is nothing wrong with the aragonite and is just the tank developing different things in it. You can stir up the aragonite with your hand. It takes months or even years before the aragonite breaks down into fine sand.

Since your tank is new its' going through it's phases. First you'll get brown gross looking stuff and then some regular algea. Usually when all your stats(ammonia, nitrite) are 0 or nitrate near 0 you could start adding some cuc (clean up crew.)

Yea, dude. You sooo need to read. I know this and I don't even have a sw tank set up yet. I've been reading a crap load and feel like a giant sponge
