I got some java ferns and a cryptocoria (don't know how to spell it). The crypto was suggested as a good (slightly larger) plant to accomidate my tank. I can't find any information on this plant. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

The guy at my LFS said that it turns redish/brown and that is normal and healthy. Any ideas?

Found my answer:

Cryptocoryne Wendtii- There are many variations of this plant ranging from brown/ red to green to Mi Oya to Tropica's version. If the plant is affected by the so called cryptocoryne disease, do not remove it from the aquarium because a few weeks later it will produce new shoots. Crypt disease is when the leaves start to dye off. This can happen for several reasons most commonly is due to stress on the plant from too warm water, sudden changes in water chemistry things like that. They rebound from it very quickly. These are root feeders as well. Height 15-25cm, Width 10-15cm, Light low-high, Temperature .. 20-30ºC, pH tolerance .. 5.5-9pH, Hardness tolerance … soft-very hard. I have found this to be another hard to kill plant.

A really nice thing I like about this plant is its size. It's a bit large (tall) for the tank so its leaves tend to float on the water. The advantage to this is that they cluster near the water return. The help to shield the water and disrupt the return flow from stirring up too much. It acts as a small shield for my betta. We'll see how he likes it in a couple weeks.

He makes a good point :p lol. I'm looking into getting some live plants for my tanks.
