Aquasafe Over Use

Guys can I over do it on aqua safe for tap wAter

I presume that's a dechlorinator?

You can not certainly overdose them, but depnding by how much will depend on if it has any negative affect on the fish. Some dechlors can be dosed 3 or 4 times the stated dose without any ill effect.

Cannot remember with Aqua Safe, but with Seachem Prime you can safely 5x the standard dose to try and counteract ammonia/nitrite/nitrate in an emergency (great for mini cycles or fish-in cycles).

Any idea how much you added compared to the standard dose for your tank?

It's fine, just either leave it stand a little longer (with some aeration if you can) or grab another bucket, halve what you have and water each one down.

Obviously you don't want your fish living in the stuff ;P but its fine.

Why would you want to add extra? It'd be a waste of money, dechlorinator dosage is designed to cope with variations in chlorine and monochloramine concentration so it is already being over dosed, the main ingredient is Sodium Thiosulphate so even if you do overdose (within reason) it wont have any ill effect.

I hear that sometimes water company's add extra chemicals and was wondering if that killed my fish so wanted to be extra safe.

I mentioned this possibility in your other thread.

To rule this our, you can phone your water company and ask if they increased levels of chlorine/chloramine in the last few days. If they did, then we have a suspect for your tank wipe-out.

The dose they state is in fact an 'over dose' of the product, jou just need to leave the water stand for longer (20-30 min) and aerate it for maximum effect...

+1 on the overdosing. The chances are, the regular dose is already over dosing, and this seems to common with all brands to cope with the varying levels of chlorine and chloarime they put in the tap water across the UK. It can vary from county to county, even town to town, so the majority of the time, your likely already well over dosing.

As above, dont waste your £££ :)

ah well i have filled my tank with the correct amount the water has been standing for over an hour. Waiting for it to get to the correct temprature. I will call up the water company now.
