I've hit up Google, Amazon, and Newegg trying to find an underwater web cam for an aquarium. Is it possible to buy them online? I'd really prefer to not make my own.

I've never heard of an underwater webcam. I guess i am wondering why you wouldn't just hook up a regular old webcam and mount it outside the tank somewhere. Many people take pictures through the glass and they turn out well. That's what i thought you meant at first. Sorry i can't be of more help to your question. Maybe someone else will have better info for you.

Well I figured that a camera inside the tank would produce a much better picture. I figured that they'd have some form of underwater camera.. but all I've been able to find are surrounds for a camera.

Could you recomend any cameras that are outside the tank?

I'd like a real time display online.. so 30 fps would be required with a high resolution.. 640 x 480 ish.

well I think that there is such a thing since there are underwater cameras. I dont think it would make a diffrence though :/ . People wont be staring at the fish tank forever and watch fish slowly go by. Maybe it would be better to get a digital camera and just make a video of your fish swimming so you can follow them and stuff. Its pretty much the same. If your really committed to buying an underwater cam then you'll need roughly 50-100 bucks to buy the equipment from the lens and the protector. Im not a photography Major but I still would imagine the equipment you'll need.

I don't think you'll find a webcam at 30fps with a 640x480 picture. Most Mini DV Cameras can't even go that well. If you want a live webcam, you're thinking about 1fps with a 320x240 picture. There are probably some webcams that could do this, but they are VERY high tech.

I meant watching it online, you'll need a really fast internet connection in order to view it at 30fps. I still don't think it will give you 640x480, because most of them are less than 1mp
