Hi I have had my tropical aquarium set up and running pretty smooth now for nearly 6 months and feel the time is right to upgrade to a bigger aquarium. At the moment I only have a 7 .5 gallon tank(uk) with a fluval 1 filter and a 50w heater. I am looking at buying a second hand 22 gallong tank with a new filter, heater and light set up. How do I go about this? Can i just transfer the water and contents of the 7.5 gallon aquarium to the new one and then top up with treated new water? what about the filter is there ant special requirements i need to take with this?
The fish I have ath the moment are :
neon tetras
harlequin rasboras
2 corydoras
5 danios

All healthy.

If you transfer the dirty filter sponges across to the new tank the bio load should be enough for the existing fish .I don't think water holds much Bacteria but transferring Gravel can help.
I am sure someone with more knowledge will give you more help.

Hi. Ya it basically sounds like you've got it about correct. If the filter you have now is of sufficient size for the new tank then just move it over and use it. If you are getting a new filter then run both filters on the tank for a few weeks or so. Then just make sure that before you move the fish into the new tank that it is up to the proper temperature, the water is de-chlorinated etc. Then just do the transfer and don't add too many new fish at a time.

Good luck with the new tank!
