Hi

It's been a while - but hurrah I got a new tank for my birthday. It is 80x40x30cm. I am very taken with some sailfin mollies in my local shop. But my book advises aquarium salt. I have never used this, and am not keen to use chemicals unless I really have to, so I have a few questions.
Is it really necessary?
Will it affect other fish? (I only have a few tetras in now its just finished cycling)
Will it affect my plants?

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks cool_jool

Salt isn't really a chemical as such and it is often really beneficial to the fish (unless they can't handle salt, like loaches and plecs). It is also often used to treat disease on it's own and also with meds to make them work better.

I keep mollies and they are not in a salted tank and are fine and dandy. Don't do it if you are uncomfortable with it.

Just my opinion :)
