Hi I have been looking at LED strips, I am wanting to create a moonlight effect, atthe moment I have a 30"/80cm tank with an "ocean moonlight" 18w tube. It's basically a bluish bulb thats soft on the eye and has a cold appearance, I want to add blue LED's so at night I can put off the main light and have a dark light in the tank to watch the fish, I have a BN plec who only ever comes out after lights off, it would be nice to see him more often...
Looking at this website, any advie greatly received :good:

In our community tank i put in some blue LEDs for the same effect. I got mine from ebay and they work a treat. the plug we got sent with ours lets you adjust the brightness as at its brightest setting they are a tad too bright to con the nocternal fish into coming out. If you want i could get a pic tonight and post it up to give you an idea?

Looks cool, I like the second picture, think this is the sort of thing I'm looking for, cheers again :good:
Meant to ask, what size of tank are they in, I'm counting the LED's to work out what I'll need, , , cheers

Just look on ebay for the listings which are the strips of 12 or 24 LEDs and depending on the legnth of your tank you might get one which is 2x 24 LEDs or even 3x 24. If you cant find any then message the seller and they will happily make you them up as i had to do this for the white ones for my betta.

I have 30"long 12"wide so maybe I would need less lights... :good:

Snail tank with light.jpg

This is the effect in my snail tank, I got these off E bay as a complete kit, just used silicon to stick the strip on.

I picked up two different strings of 4 LEDs each a year or more ago from a person on E-Bay. I put one of the kits in a 3 foot long tank and it just casts enough light that I can make out my fish after lights out in the room. I put the other in a 6 foot tank and find that the light in there is more of a glow in the tank that brings out the decor but makes it hard to pick out the actions of the fish. One place that the second string seems to work out is in my cichlid breeding in that 6 foot tank. Although the light is hard for me to use to watch the fish, it seems to be enough for the rainbow cichlids to use it to defend their territory from other fish when they are breeding. They are much more successful now than they ever were before I got the minor light from a simple 4 blue LEDs in their tank. The specific LEDs that I bought were a widely dispersed light beam rather than a narrow beam variety. Apparently each kind can be had and they were being sold separately at E-bay at the time.

Widely dispersed or diffuse would be nice :good: , still not bought anything at the moment  , getting a bit older tomorrow so with the extra pocket money I think a shopping splurge is in order, watch this space

Most led's I have seen on e bay have been rubbish, Im not saying all of them so please don't have a go, When I started looking for led's the first place I looked was an electrical diy called Mapplins. You can get them online but I went to see them. The staff there gave me tons of advice. If you are going to call in don't go on a weekend coz there really busy. The next place I looked was you tube. You can see plenty of led disasters or naff tanks. You can also see the beautiful shimmering effect and gentle peacefulness an led set up can bring.

I BOUGHT SOME BLUE MOONLIGHT LEDS FROM EBAY HAD THEM 2 WEEKS AND THEY BROKE HERE THEY ARE WHEN THEY WORKED
