this seems like a daft question - nevertheless - the heater is called the elite submersible 200 w - nowhere on the package does it say it can be immersed totally - only sign on the heater is a minimum level that the heater must be in the water. has anyone got one of these can it be submersed? :(

Thanks for your help. :)

Just make sure the heater is kept in the water below the minimum level, especially when doing a water change. Turn the heater off if you're doing a water change where the water level will drop below the minimum. This will stop the heater from cracking and breaking.

really?

I am just in the process of setting up a new tank and have a visi therm 200w heater to go in it.

On the instructions it says it can be immersed up to 120mm in the water which is indicated by ( shows a symbol) on the heater.
Now this symbol is about 1 inch away from the top of the heater on the glass body of the heater.

It says it is completely waterproof in the manual... just has me a little confused??

What country are you from?
I think it's Canada that has a law so that the manufacturers have to put a maximum water level on the heaters, where as others have a minimum.

This is just so that they are not breaking the law. They are all fully waterproof.

it's not just Canada. I'm in the US, and i just bought a new Jager heater and on the box and on the Eheim website it says fully submersible. but... in the instructions and on the unit it says don't submerge past this water line.

i think they are just doing it internationally to play it safe. sucks though, cause it confuses people. i wonder how many heaters are being returned because of this.
