hi, i have a pretty large aquarium ( 60 US gallons ) and was wondering if instead of buying regular aquarium gravel at a pet shop i could get some from a construction company that sells gravel in large amounts at low prices and then just boil it? i just need to know if it would be safe for the fish and what kind of procedures i should go through to clean it if it can be done.

yes, you can.
wash it first untill water runs clear then boil for at least 20mins then put it in (after its cooled)

But make sure those gravels are small in size. You don't want gravels that are sized 5mm or larger as debrees can get trapped easily in those setup. After 1 year, I had to remove those gravels and replace them with pool filter sand. (why don't you look for these instead? They are also super cheap).
