I recently upgraded my external filter to a Fluval 305 and placed the ceramic pieces from my old filter into the new filter. I have noticed the nitrite and nitrate levels have risen slightly. Disturbed by this I put some Nutrafin cycle biological supplement in to try and stabilise both.My question is this:

Once the levels are both back to zero is there a need to use the biological supplement on a weekly basis (as it says on the container) or will I be ok with just doing the regular water changes ?

Thank you.

once they are stable, stop adding it

Put the cycle in the bin it's utterly useless. It doesn't contain any bacteria, and if it once did during manufacture, they';d have died long ago.

Just keep up with frequent little water changes until the levels reach normal again.
