Evening everyone!

We have a spare tank, its a Tropiqarium 68, a 70ltr tank which we've emptied out.

We are going to be given a (about) 10 inches long Corn Snake/Red Rat Snake, its about 4 months old and we were told that it'll be ok for a while in something about the size of the tank.

I'm just wondering will I need to modify the tank much?

I'm going to look for the right size tubes for the lid, kit it out with wood chip, branches and water. Also a small heater pad too.

I'm open to suggestions for ANYTHING here... so feel free to fire anything you want here...

Cheers everyone,

Sven.

Just make sure you have a top that closes well, you don't want the snake to escape!

Personally I would trust a corn snake with any fish tank lid but then again I haven't seen the tank. It might work but there has to be some ventalation on the top. You can buy special reptile lids for converting fish tanks, this could be a better option but it will be more expensive.

Get a mesh or screen lid, fish tank lids don't allow wnough air circulation. Remember to have one that will latch down OR put weights on the lid.

Sorry, I forgot to mention about the head pad.. have one of them sorted out.

As for the lid, I was worried about that. Guessed as much, but I was hoping to be able to use the lights and timer, but I'll have to come up with a lighting rig instead I think.

I'll have a look around and see if I can find any DIY projects around, and I'm going to take a trip to Homebase and have a look at some mesh and things.

Any pointers would be great :)

Thanks everyone!

I wouldnt put a baby corn in a fish tank unless you have a vivarium lid for it.Baby corns can get through the tiniest of gaps and the tank lid will have holes for cables etc

i do agree I would house it in a geo box for a while. They work great and you could acctually sit it inside your tank so that you can make use of the lighting. They are really cheap and work great.

I agree with Shrimply, you would be better off with a geo box, you can buy them from any reptile store, it cost me £40 that includes a waterbowl, heatmat, 1 piece of bark, 1 plastic plant, and 1 pot hide...mine also came with some woodchips in :) but yeh i dont reccommend fish tanks, my college had a cornsnake in on n she escaped out of it so many times.
