I have two AquaOne tanks, one a 65l, the other a 34l. The filter is the same on both tanks, uses the same pump, rated at 400lph. It's mounted in the hood, and the outlet falls out of the hood and into the water.

It's ok in the larger tank, but in the smaller one, obviously it's pretty much double the turnover, and it creates some serious currents.

Has anyone got any ideas as to how I can reduce the currents in the tank. I have tried partially blocking the inlet, and it makes the pump make a very nasty noise, so I don't really want to go that route again. Any other suggestions?

A smaller rated pump?

Not one in the Aqua One range, I've checked with their technical guys, but if you know of one that will fit in the 'ole, I'm all ears. :good:

Can you plumb it into an external box as an extra bit of filter, that may slow it down.

Otherwise, if you slow the water down going in it'll likely be less noisy that slowing the outlet, so a prefilter on the intake?

can you put a sock type dense sponge on the intake to slow the flow down?

I have tried partially blocking the inlet, but the pump doesn't like it at all.

naff tanks ;/ I demand you take out a loan and purchase something huge.

Patience, Grasshopper, patience. These things will happen eventually. In the meantime, tho....
