Hi All,

I bought an AquaIonic inline water filter as I was concerned about how much water I was wasting with an RO unit. My filter is now "full", but does anyone know if the aquaionic ioniser crystals can be recharged in salt water or anything else?

Cheers,

Wee Al

There are several types of ion exchange resins. The cheapest are use once and chuck.

Those that can be rechrged with salt, (like domestic water softners), should not be used for aquaria. These do not remove metals, rather, they replace certain ions, (typically Calcium and Magnesium), with others, (Sodium), which can affect the osmoregulation of fish. That is why you get a drinking water tap when you install a water softner, it is bad for human osmoregulation as well.

The best resins are those which are recharged with Hydrochloric Acid.

So you will need to find out what you have. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer?
