Hi guys,

I though it was about time i put my hand to another pico.
Some basic stuff-
Filter-HOB60
Lighting- 11W florescent, its actual the lighting that came with the free PFK cube.
Heater- Newattino plus 10W
Substrate- Tropica plant nutrition and black fine gravel over the top.
Hardscape- Dead and pree soaked heather wood, its that dead and pree soaked, it sinks. Rock are some kind of light porous lava rock.
Ferts- Tropica plant nutrition+ and Easy life carbon.

Heres the hard scape.
This image shows the basic composition im after. You would call it a mound or central composition. The yellow line is shows you that im unhappy with the angle of the rock, the line is the angle i would like to achieve. I want to create a free flow of space around the cluster of branches.

This image shows how i would like it to appear after some decent growth.

The reddish area is hopefully going to be something like Ludwigia arcuata , or Rotala wallichii , basically i want some red in there at that focal point.
The rocks will be covered with fissidins moss as well as parts of the branches.
The grass will be Eleocharis parvula , if i can get it. If not something very similar.
Hemianthus callitrichoides ''Cuba'' is the for ground plant.
And some of the stem plants, probably no more than 3 species will be something like Hemianthus micranthemoides ,Didiplis diandra ,something along those lines, depends on what i can order.

So there you have it.

Cheers,
Graeme.

Great Hardscape, where did you get that wood? It's brilliant and is the kind of size and scale I'm looking for.

I know this tank will be great just like your previous scape.

The wood is dead heather wood. I never cut it fresh or pulled it off a living bush. I collected it from north wales off a high footpath. it had been dead for some time before i got to it.

Right. I should have collected some when I was in North Wales a few months back.

Lovely idea Graeme. I look forward to seeing it develop. How do you envision the planting process? You managed to find some smaller-grade tools before, right? 8lt isn't a lot of space for detailed planting.

Looks like a challenge :)
Can't wait to see this one.
Just a question, do you think that the light will really be able to allow red colouration? I would have thought that it wasn't enough to promote red colours in plants.

He's got around 5.5WPG, give or take. It'll be a challenge, as IMO, this is not a high-light tank at all. In my 2.5g, the only red I got growing well was A. reineckii, and I had 13W over it. R rotundifolia grew alright, but it didn't blush salmon like it did in my other tanks in which the WPG was much lower. I doubt R. wallichii will, but in all fairness, I first thought that A. reineckii needed a lot more light and tried it on a whim in my lower light tanks, and it thrived. He has a much better substrate and equipment than I do.
