I'm going to be setting up a 10gal tank in my room pretty soon. Just gotta move my stuff around (moved to sister's old room  ) What kind of filter should I use for it? The Penguin-mini is only a few more dollars than the aquaclear mini. I've heard that the penguin filters sometimes have troubles with the biowheel (i.e. getting stuck, making too much noise). Since its in the same room that i'm sleeping in, i don't want it to be making too much noise (or at least noise that isn't relaxing :p ) Any suggestions??

i have 3 penguins a 170 on a 20 gal + two 330;s on a 55 gal, never once have i had any troble with the bio wheels or anything for that matter..the biological filtration that the bio wheels promote wil keep your water crystalllllll clear and thats no lie!!!! i have never used anything else so i cant compare only rate the penguins top knotch!!! u wont be dis satisfied if u use them....and u dont even hear them either.......all i do is clean the cartridges ever cpl weeks and about every 2 months or so i replace the 170 CARTRIDGE. but i dont replace the 330's cuz they have 2 seperate media basket for carbon, i use amo carb...i got mine online for 17.99 the 170 + 23.99 the 330 the minis are cheap so go a lil higher u cant over filter i dont think, as i say i have 2 on the 55....if i look at my tank from A side veiw its appears there is no water its so clear ALWAYS!!!!
GOOD LUCK

I have AC Minis on my fry tanks, as long as you keep the water level up, they are pretty much silent. Any hob filter will make noise if the water level is low, letting the water splash down to the surface of the tank.

Had some sort of biowheel years ago on a 10. Don't remember what type it was, but it died after a year or so. The ACs seem more durable, I've got a 200 that is at least 4 years old, and other than cleaning every month it keeps running. The sponge is at least 3 years young, and still good. My Dad had it before me, & a neighbor had it before him. It's on a 20 tall with a pair of marble angels now, and running strong. Can't say enough about the ACs, this one is like the energizer bunny.
