I have an ac mini in my 10 gallon tank and i was wondering what kind of filter media i should use. right now, im using 2 of the white sponges and i still have room for something else to use. also, this might be a really dumb question, the two sponges i use are on the bottom and the middle, which leaves the top one open. should i move them up or leave it as it is?

I use two sponges in my Aquaclears. This provides all of the mechanical and biological filtration I need and I don't bother filling up the last area. It won't really make a difference where you put the sponges, but keeping them lower is probably easier.

I have, in the past, used fine filter floss in the third chamber, which can help to polish the water.

I know that there is also carbon and ammonia eater packets available. I use all three: Sponge then Carbon then Ammonia eater. If you have characins (tetras) you could add peat to tan the water and make it look more natural. It also helps hinder the growth of algea.
