I hadn't been planning on getting any bettas off Aquabid but fell in love with a beautiful boy

How the heck does the whole transhipper thing work?

(I'm totally clueless)

You pay the seller for the fish and the shipping cost to the US.

They will then supply you with the name and email of the transhipper. You contact them telling them what you have coming in and how you want them shipped. You then pay the transhipper for the costs involved in shipping the fish to you which would include the box, heat pack, shipping charges, etc. They will give you a breakdown of the charges. You would pay the transhipper when the fish arrive in her area.

I wondered that same thing.
Why is Linda Olsen so popular?

Linda is just a well-trusted shipper; she packs her fish very well and stays in contact with you so you know exactly what's up :)

Anyway, transshippers are used because, when live plants or animals come from overseas, it's sometimes necessary that they be picked up at a major airport by someone who has the proper permits to sign for them and get them properly imported into the country. Transshippers take care of this for you, then send the fish on to your home.

Why can't the origanal sender just do that?
Why can't it go through security in the airport and be sent by UPS or Fedex?

Because it's the government safeguarding our country. . . . :fun:

I've dealt w/ Linda before and Synirr is right - trustworthy and excellent communication (fast!! and to the point)

Because the sender isn't in this country to sign for the fish, now are they? :p
I believe that's the problem... someone with a permit has to be here to sign for them and all that jazz.

I'll also add that you can request the transhipper that you want when you win a fish on aquabid that is from a Thai seller, even if the seller says "I use so and so" on their ad page you can still tell them which transhipper you prefer. Linda lives fairly close to me and so I have the priveledge of picking up my fish personally from her. She explained to me that all the Thai fish are shipped by the same person in the same shipment so if you tell the seller who you want you can have your fish end up in that shipment.

Hopefully that made sense :*

there are legal regulations to be followed within the USA when live animals are imported into the country. someone with an import license must come get the fish with the appropriate paperwork completed, and abide by specific procedures when receiving them. it's not the job of UPS or Fedex to collect fish from the airport, fill out declaration forms, see them through customs, pay the necessary import taxes, have the packages properly inspected, etc.

yup, ive done that before too. i've never used anyone other than linda, and since i have an unusual way of having them shipped to me (i get them sent general delivery to the post office near my work...long story) that linda is familiar with, i'd rather not get involved with a different transhipper.
