contemplating getting the aqueiscience (probably not spelt like that) which is a 220litre cube.

comes with a 1200lph aqua one filter which should be enough turnover if it actually does what it say's on the tin.

got no experience with these filters though, anyone know if they're any good or not? any personal experiences?

oh also, wondering about the practicalities of cube tanks, it's basically a 2 foot cube.

clearly wouldn't be suitable for large fish but the biggest fish we are planning is a pair of angels, are there any problems with cube tanks for small community fish?

The only two drawbacks I can think of is less surface area for gas exchange, so you'd probibly only be able to get to an inch and a half per gallon with ample surface agetation if it's the tank you and your other half were talking with me about at work today (Aqueance 3050 [possibly 3055?] cube). :good: Lenght can also become a limiting factor if you whish to keep teritorial fish with minimalistic decor, as there is less lenght to fight and run over, thus more agro between fish unless you can get the lines of sight between teritories broken up -_- Thought being put into aquascaping will avoid that though. ;)

Sorry, as per this morning, no personal experince with aquaone exturnal filters, so can't help there

The display tank at the foot of the stairs is good build everywhere apart from with the in-hood filter. The filter was returned due to leaking which is typical of their hood types from customer feed-back. Their internals (Which are now on that one) are good and I've yet to see a bad review of their exturnals. I was origionally going to get an Aquaone exturnal for the big tank before comming across the Tetratecs. Have a skim though the exturnal filter review thread though and you'll find a few owners in there

aye it's the one we were looking at today

not fussed about the lighting we'd be getting a nice luminaire for it so it'd never have the hood and stock lighting set up anyway.

well we don't like overstocking tanks anyway, 1.5" per gal is about what we usually aim for anyway so no issue to stick to that.

the only aggressive/territorial fish were planning is a pair of angels, the nannacara are a little big agressive but small enough that in a reasonably well planted tank they've got plenty of places to 'claim' and hide from each other.

we spoke about future uses of the tank, we know if we got it it'd never be suitable to put large cichlids in or anything like that, but that's not what we want it for and if we ever wanted to go down that route again we'd be looking for a 6x2x2 anyway.

The only problem i have found with our 4ft aqua one tank is that even though it has an external filter, the way the hood/lid is desgined lets water drip down the outside of the tank down the glass so im forever wiping the dry water marks off the front corners of the tank. Its just the way the plastic is joined. nothing we can do about it.

....Appart from running a bead of Silicone arround the rim to re-seal it ;) You could also drop the water level back below the rim. Shouldn't have to do that, but most manufacturers are skimpy with the silicone arround the trim. You can now get aquarium silicone that sets underwater also, and that is fishsafe from application to setting from, Quess Who? Aqua One  Worth a try if you have some, but at £20 a tube I wouldn't go and buy a tube specially. Could also be usefull for a small leak in a seam -_-
