Someone in the neighborhood just gave me abour 15 baby apple snails... and I want to add them to my betta tanks... do I need to float them? And do you think my bettas will bother them?
Thanks ;)

They should be just fine w/the bettas.... BUT
Remember Gary? He was an apple snail.
He got VERY big and VERY messy, VERY fast.
I had to oust him from my girly betta tank because he was leaving so much waste and slime all over.

If you vacuum often and keep the water clean you should have no problems.
or if you do 100% water changes you should be fine too.

You should float them just like fish and then dump them in.

one little tip that someone shared with me - if they curl up inside their shells and stay like that for several days, they're not necessarily dead - so don't throw them out unless you're positive they're dead. :)

I have an apple snail in with each of my bettas in their 1 - 2 gallon tanks. I've not had any problems with the bettas bothering them, but they are really messy just like BM said.

Yeah, I have a gold inca snail (part of the apple snail family) in my dwarf puffer tank. They're SOOO active and cute. But like BettaMomma said, they are messy. I had to put them in a bag overnight and there was SO MUCH POOP in the morning! Just be careful.

And on a happier note, Larry (or should I say Lori? lol) laid eggs!! So hopefully they'll be fertile and we'll have baby Larrys! And a new Gary for BettaMomma!! Gary II!

And I just have to show him off... haha.

Apple Snails are cool! They get to be bigger then a baseball! They are really messy though and I think I remember reading on here that a snail should be in at least 2 gallons cause they are such a big bio load. I have 2 ramshorn snails in a 10 gal with one of my male bettas and 2 AFD's. The betta doesn't bother them too bad. When I had one of the snails in my female community though the poor thing never came out of it's shell cuase the girls liked to nibble the feelers off......
