I have a few apple snails in my aquarium, and two of them have been acting very odd lately. One of them has been extending a very long (2-3in) antenna every once in a while, and one of the snails has been getting on the others back. Also, one of them has been having a dead bush-looking thing clinging to its side. I have NO idea what is going on. Any ideas, guys? Thanks.
The anttenna you talk about is called the syphon ( have a look in the anatomy section here http/www.applesnail.net/ ) and it uses this to breath from the surface of the water. mine often extends this even when at the bottom of the tank. when they are doing the biz, the male will crawl onto the females shell and crawl round until it looks like he is trying to get in her shell, they will then stay like this for a few mins or even hours. The dead bush looking thing is poop, well thats what my snails poop looks like. Sometimes it sticks there for a while.

p.s. keep an eye on the inside of your tank lid for egg clutches
I'll move your thread to the Invertebrates and Amphibians part of the forum where it will be seen by more members who have specialized knowledge of snails. You might get more responses there.
