well as from tomorrow i could have 2 large apple snails .I have been asked tonight if i can take them as the kid who has them wants to use the tank for a lizard instead.
I have never looked into keeping apple snails so dont know the first thing about them.He has kept them in a 2ft coldwater tank could i keep them in the 35 uk gallon Hex tank with my Pair of Kribs or would they be better in my 40 gallon community setup?.will they be ok going from coldwater setup to tropical setup?any advice on keeping them would be a great help
Generally apple snails shouldn't be with any loaches, puffers and most cichlids. Gourami usually peck at their antenna and harass them too. What kind are the snails brigs or cannas? if they are cannas they will quickly eat every green thing in site. www.applesnail.net is a great site which tells you everything you need to know about them.
I havent seen them yet and all he knows is they are apple snails Community tank only has 6 Neons,3 sword tails,4 corys,3 guppies in but will be adding more fish at a later date
They should be fine in your community tank. If they are brigs they max out at around 1.5 inches. Cannas get as big as a baseball. There are pics on the site i mentioned that show the differences but generally brigs have a spiral that goes to a point and brigs have a flatter spiral.
