hi i have apple snails in my community tank.
1 fish has fin rot/fungus
how can i treat this without harming the snails ?

Do you have a separate tank that you can use as quarantine/hospital tank? If so, I strongly recommend you remove the infected fish into the spare tank.

It will cut down the amount of medication you have to use, and also enables you to control it far easier.

I'm not sure about your original question though, whether or not snails get harmed. But snails aren't as fussy with water conditions or space, so you could always remove the snail/s until the medication has been used?

Most medicines should state if they affect invertebrates or not!! primafix and melafix are safe (used them myself with apple snails in tank), but they are not the strongest of meds to use.

you CAN move your snail and treat the tank, but you have to be 100% sure that all traces of meds are out of the tank before putting snail back in! (obviously this only applies to using meds that can harm snails - which is pretty much anything with copper/metals in!).

I found info on this site when I needed to treat, search for "medicine and snails" etc!

thanks for the info
can i safely use tonic salt or not

No, it will most likely kill apple snails- as suggested, you are best off sticking to something like pimafix and regular water changes. I would also like to mention salt can also harm various fish themselves, so you should be wary of this.
