I had 3 apple snails in my coldwater tank 2 were new since the other day one the new ones were in quite warm water when bought and one of them seemed to be staying in the shell his trapdoor stayed where it was when touched but he didnt smell. I moved him to the tank with my betta which is a heated tank now hes coming out could he possibley not of liked the cool water? the other snails are fine and there fed enough :)

I have large apple snails in both heated and cold water tanks. They seem happy enough to breed in both, although they are more active in warmer water. I find that most species of snail will remain in their shell (having a good long think) if the water conditions are very different in a new tank. They will come out eventually.

I recently recieved 5 apple snails from Little Monkey on this forum and she warned me that they like to play dead, sure enough they didnt move and just stayed at the bottom of the tank upside down from when i placed them in the tank and remained this way for the best part of 12 hours. They soon became active given time and acclimatisation to my tank. :) Hope this helps!
