I received a beautiful apple snail yesterday and heard theres different types of apple snails? Some are plant eaters others are algae eaters?
Well since ive had him he hasnt been bothered about plants he just likes to 'lick' the tank walls and vaccume the gravel so I assume hes an algae eater?
How many algae wafers do i drop in the tank and how often?
Heres pics of the snail,

Snail ID please... :)

I am not sure on what type of apple snail. I can tell you that they do not only eat algae, they will eat up left over bits of food that you rfish will not eat. Knowing that you only have one betta in the tank, I assume that you feed him pellets instead of flakes. I would buy some flakes and put them i the water for the snail. If the betta gets some of the flakes, fine don't feed him for a few days. I would give him 1-2 algae wafers once a week. I have never kept snails, so this answer is not based upon expirence, and it may be wrong.

My petsmart sells those golden snails! You said he doesn't eat live plants? I might get one.

This is the only species which does not eat plants, most apple snails do eat plants and algae but plants preferably. Bridgesi like dead or rotting foods and algae although if fish food is freely available they will eat it over natural alternatives. If your looking for a large algae eating snail get a nerite as an added bonus they won't breed in freshwater only in brackish so you won't become overrun. The shell colur is not a good indication of what species a snail comes from only the careful matters such as shell shape and behaviour id them.

I'm happy he hasnt eaten any plants yet, so i'm thinking its a non plant eater apart from dead leaves?
