Hi all,

I bought this plant ( Aponogeton madagascariensis ) and it came as a bulb. I've had one before years back and it grew really well for months.

This new one had no leaves. 3 days after planting ( with bulb not fully submerged in substrate ) a few leaves started to grow. A week later and the leaves are coming on nicely.

3 days ago I noticed a stem starting to appear. Over the next few days this stem has grown 28" ( yes 28 inches!! ).

It is now 8" above the water surface but not out of the water as you can see in the attached picture.

I'm just wondering what will happen next. Will it continue to grow at an alarming rate or will it stop growing and flower??

The one I had years back never did this so this is great.

Any advice or should I just leave it and see what happens. The tank has a hood so I cant really have it out of the water as it would be too close to the lights and I'm guessing it would get too hot.

P.S. I forgot to mention. Sorry about the background of the tank, it is coming of soon! Ha

Looks good, did yours trail across the water surface? Mine has reached the water surface and then is trailing about 9" across it now as it sways in the current of the tank!

Cant wait till it flowers as I've never had a plant flower in all the years I've had tanks.

the tank was deep about 60cm, and the flower stems reach about a meter. It flowers for about a week or 2, then before it dies off nip it from the bulb and you'll get another. :good:

Thanks Ianho...

It has had another growing session over night and is now 3ft long so nearly 1 meter.

I'll try what you said.

Just had a look at your New Scape tank, looks great.

thats a nice flower! well done! :good:
