Aponogeton bulbs...

Ok, I got these Aponogeton bulbs from a local store and it says to just drop them in the tank and they'll root themselves in about a week. It also says that they're pretty hardy, and within 15 days, they should be growing (with 8 hours of light a day). It was quite the impulse buy because my tank is pretty poorly planted, but I'm wondering if these even work. Anyone have experience with aponogeton bulbs?

Yeah. About a third of them grow. I've heard that if you send them the bulbs that didn't grow, they send you a whole bunch of aquatic plants. I need to go do that...

They're so cheap, though, so it's really worth it.

Yeah, there is some sort of gaurantee on the box that if they don't grow 6-8 inches in 15 days, to send them in and they'll do something. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Aww, yay for guppies. One of my mama's just had about 25 fry pop out.

They work great. I have 4 of them in my tank at the moment, and they're actually the only plant in there that seems to grow really fast and algea free. I'm honestly thinking about taking out all my other plants and just getting like 5 of those boxes and having just an apon tank. I think it would be kindof neat, lots of flowers too.

Don't freak out if they don't sprout in 14 days. I had some I left in the tank a full six weeks before they sprouted. Most of mine don't sprout in two weeks, normally around the 21-25 day period. Then they grow six inches in hours.

It really depends on how long that package has been sitting around there before you bought it.

Yeah, same here. You ain't kidding about the growing "right-before-your-eyes" part, I never seen something take off so fast!!

after a week of slow growth one of my aponogetons has suddenly grown almost 5 inches in approx. 9 hours!

woah this thread sure brings it back a while. I can't believe I'm still around. BTW my apons are still in the tank, and just started growing again after about a 2 month break.
