Hi

I recently went to the midlands purchased a male and female apitogramma agazzisi and an albino krib.

Couldnt get them down in dorset its almost impossible to find decent fish down here, anyway unfortunately the female died, all the water test were suitable for apistos and the male is doing brilliantly and very healthy, there was also no aggression in the tank.

My question is, could i put an apisto orange fin female to provide company or is there a risk of cross breeding, does he need company of his own kind?

I got the lone male albino a normal krib today and they seem to have paired up. Im also looking for a female nigerian red krib as i have a male in another tank.

any help would be appreciated once i sort out my digital camera pics will follow

thanks
dave

well of course there is a risk of them cross breeding but thats not the problem(and btw-i don't see why you can't mix the 2)the problem is how(if you were to sell them)would they be ID'd,in other words if you take some of their fry to an lfs what would you tell the lfs they are?mind you whatever you call them..chances are the person you speak to at the lfs will just leave it at dwarf cichlids or dwarf apisto..and from there...well :X

if they spawn for you think of them as feeders

hi

thanks for the reply mostanks.

however im am not planning on selling them to a lfs, i have a few tanks suitable and know mates with tanks, so they will always have a home. I just wanted a female in there to acompany the male not for breeding.

I also find the whole idea of introducing fish into a tank for the other fish to prey on distastful, even more so one of my own fish's brood. If they have fry and the other fish eat them in the tank this is the natural order of things but to set up breeding with the intention of providing feeder fish wouldnt work for me.

I know alot of people who have cichlids use feeder fish and some fish will not eat anything but feeder fish, however , i could not watch my fish prey on other fish.

I kind of like having fry, the babies look kind of sweet. I probable will introduce a female to see what happens.

thanks dave
