I picked up a lone Apistogramma macmasteri from my lfs today. He was in a bottom tank all by himself and nobody who worked there even knew he was there. They dont stock dwarf cichlids so they couldn't figure out how he got there.

Anyways I felt sorry for him. I knew he wouldn't ever get bought. I was assured he would fit in my community tank with my pair of rams. From what I've read they are peaceful unless spawning but since it's just the one male I dont think I should run into any problems? I read for all apistos that they like to be in trios. Should I find him a couple girls or will he be fine by himself?

He's a stunning fish :D

edit: If he wont work in the community tank I can move him to a 14.5 gallon that just has some rasboras in it. From everything I've read they can live from a tank 50 cm and upwards. My 14.5 gallon is 60 cm long.

As it is a single male I would say it should be okay. However They to grow quite large for an apistogramma. If you do get yourself a female then I would put them in the other tank.

Yeah I want to move him out eventually anyways into a 30-40 gallon. I'll probably get him a female or couple females when I can find them. :)

 Glad you found something special that you like, Elisabeth. Is he something you think you can grow together with?

How big will he get? What colors is he? Does he resemble any thing we've been talking about?

I don't think you saw my question someplace else. What/who is your avitar.

I found some sparklers and one lone Honey. :D AND some diamond heads :p :D

Hi Sue, I'm glad I found him too :D He's a really pretty fish. His body and fins look just like cockatoos do. I'll try to snap some pix today.

I noticed he's bullying the rams a bit so I think I'll move him to another tank. I'd like to try and free up one of my 30 gallons and get him 1-2 females and make it into another community tank with maybe the sparkling gouramis

Oh sorry :*) My avatar is of one of my female bettas

I'm glad you found some sparklers...I know of 2 places here that sell them but it's slow season right now so I've got to wait til like end of August of September before they get more in. I've got to look up what diamond heads are...I'm assuming they are a tetra?

edit: oops forgot to answer that he's about 3 inches right now although he looks bigger because of all his long fins. I think he's full grown.
