I picked up a pair today after initially going for pair of Ap panduro. But I saw the gold and red boy playing about and changed my mind. I researched the paduro for about a week and obviously not the hongsloi but from what i've red so far, this apisto does not reproduce strong colored fry. I'm kinda confused so figured I's ask here. Also What is this apistos temperament in terms of the females. Vicious or placid? And lastly does the water parameters need changing in order for them to breed?

Yup, I'm playing catch up because of an impulse buy. And Impulse buys are fast becoming the theme of my experience in this hobby.

Care and breeding are the same as for panduro. Temperament is the same. As for color, the males should be very similar to daddy, but I could be wrong. I'm no genetics expert.

Minnnt If those angels are yours, congrats. They are gorgeous :good:

TO date this is the most expensive apisto pair I've purchased (£26) I thought I was being robbed but didn't care at the time, so hearing that of a price tag for £40 makes me feel like I snagged a bargain. Trouble is I'm not finding any uniform info on this species?

Treat them as any other Apistogramma. The rarer the better if you get any fry. :hyper:

Yes, the Angels 'were' mine. Sadly rehomed now. :/

Just a few pics...

The female was white until today but has started to show some color. I haven't been able to get a clear pic of the male but he is now showing some crimson, black, white, and gold... His dorsal fin has vertical strips of red and white. While I have always heard people in the hobby use the term "sexy fish" but I haven't dared to consider any of mine possibly fitting that description until now. Hopefully they'll continue to colour up

The female before and with some color. She has a Deep red point at the tail That isn't picked up because I have a bad camera

For comparison, they were both this colour when they arrived

Interestingly enough the female has started to clean out the caves so hopefully (emphasis on fingers crossed type hopefully) they might adapt to my parameters, and breed
