I've been researching but I can't find a definitive answer, I'm new to this and I am finally going to get some fish.

I have a 65 l tank (60x30x35 cm) and am planning on stocking around 8 rummy nose tetra and I would like a centre piece fish and was wondering if 1 male and 1 female of Apistogramma Triple Red. Would this tank be an adequate size for them? I love these fish but wouldn't want them to live in inadequate conditions

Thanks for any replies,

I personally feel they would do best in 110 liters (29 US gallon tank). They like to swim and I am just not sure that's long enough for them.

okay thanks for the help, now I need to find another fish

What sort of fish are you looking for? Any dwarf cichild or are you open to other kinds as well?

I am just looking for a nice centre piece type fish. I'm open to suggestions definitely, except a betta. Don't know why but i don't like them too much

Cheers if you have any suggestions!

P.S Nice youtube channel

Thanks, glad you like it.

You have a 17 gallon-ish tank (I've got to convert in my mind to think about fish). I like the Flame Dwarf Gourami, and the golden panchax (killifish) or the Dwarf Chameleon Fish (Badis badis).

Scarlet badis, would be an excellent choice. If you want a dwarf cichlid, Nanacara anomala would fit in nicely. A very under rated fish imo. By the way, apistogrammas are new world cichlids, just a heads up.

Really like the scarlet basis! Could I keep a pair of these in such a tank? And are they particularly sensitive?

Cheers for the suggestions, I just have questions questions questions

It's a great fish, smaller than the one I suggested. It's generally pretty nervous so my only worry is that Tetras might be too much for them as far as competing for food. Other than that I really say it's a perfect fish.

I think they are fairly uncommon as well. I'm going to just the rummy nose for now let them settle then see what happens.

Just a lot of choices out there and I don't want to make a rash decision! Are there any pairs that would fit in my tank?

Cheers!!

Well a pair of the scarlet badis would fit. To be honest I'm not sure if they have to be male/female though.

Do you have anyting on the bottom of your tank? Corys make great bottom dwellers and are fun to watch as well.

An great just need to see if of my lfs have them! For bottom dwellers I'm going for 2/3 otocinclus, my tank is heavily planted with a good amount of algae.

Do corydoras eat algae? I heard you also have to keep them in groups of 4 or 5

Cheers for all help tcamos, you've been really helpful!

They do eat algae but also clean the bottom of other types of fish food that fall to the floor. They do well in groups of three but I have kept them singly and in pairs and they were long lived. They just behave better when there are at least three of them as they are social fish. The nice thing about them is that there are several quite attractive species.

I've been researching them and unfortunately I have gravel, not sand so the corys would be a no go

I really like the otos so I'm going to wait until algae has developed and get 2 or 3 of them! I hope this is ok?

Thanks every so much for all your help, I'll stop hassling you now!

Axy!

Yes, any sharp edges are bad for them and also they will uproot some plants if you have the. I'm sure you will find a fish you love. Let us know what it is once you do!

I'm not one to ask about ottos. I've kept them in the past but my tanks are always very low algae and I normally keep other algae eating fish that beat them to the food so I never keep ottos anymore. It's been years. I love them as a species though.
