Apistogramma Cacatuoides Losing His Tail

Hi, I have a pair of apistos and the male one is beginning to lose his tail, however I'm not sure if someone is nipping it or what it is, it has lost a bit of only his back tail with the top quarter split off from the rest of the tail, I've had them for a few months and never really had any problems with them and he's my favourite fish!!

In the tank I have 6 rummy nosed tetra, a bn pleco, 2 blue neon gobys, 1 Bolivian ram, 2 red chinned panchax and a honey gourami the newest additions are the blue neon gobys, the tank is 140l and 0 ammonia/nitrite 10ppm nitrate

any help would be appreciated as I really don't want him to get any worse!

How often do you change water? Have you tried doing a few large water changes since the problem started? Does it look like fin-rot?

I changed 30% a couple of days ago and I noticed it was quite bad today. theres no other fish in the tank with it and there is nothing white or cloudy on the tips of his fins. I'm extremely sad about this as he's the most beautiful apisto ive seen so far and I dont know whats up with him! I change the water every 2 weeks, should I bump it up to every week?

If you're only changing 30% every 2 weeks, it could be fin rot. I'd be doing 50% each week. I would do an 80% change now and 50% for a couple of days to see if he starts to show improvement. Hope so!

Wow I feel stupid now if I wasn't changing enough water! I have a box of aquarium salt for these exact moments, should I add any of that? Thanks for replying so fast

Some people might add salt, but I wouldn't. Salt and raising the temp helps with ich, but I don't think fin rot. Hopefully someone more experienced with it can chime in.

I just find that doing massive water changes usually helps whatever ails my fish, and sure doesn't hurt them.

I would also not add salt and do a largeish (50%) water change now. I normally do 10-20% per week, for most tanks.

Okay so I've done about a 66-75% waterchange and just bought some anti fungal/finrot stuff just incase, water params still at 0 0 10 hope he doesn't lose anymore finage he's such a beautiful fish!

Okay so I put some of the interpet finrot treatment in and noticed the treatment contained some form of ethanol, It's been about 30 mins and now all the fish have just gone almost lifeless, just asif theyre asleep apart from my honey gourami (I think he's quite old anyway) whos layed on the bottom of the tank. Are my fish drunk? Is this normal for the treatment?

So after a bit of research on the active ingredient "phenoxyethanol" it seems its a tranquiliser!

right now I'm panicing i have no idea what to do!

Erm, did you dose exactly what instructions said, taking into account the water displaced by substrate and decor? Increase surface agitation/aeration/add airstone.

Which exact medication did you use?

It recommended 25ml for my tank so I added 20.
The meds were interpet fungus and finrot.

I can't find any more information about the medication quickly. What are your tank dimensions/volume stated by manufacturer? What's the dosage requirement? What is your water temperature?
