As in the title, what can I keep in a 16 litre coldwater tank.

It's now spare after getting a bigger tank for my goldfish - had no idea that 16 litres was too small until I joined these forums :good:

Would there be any types of shrimp that I could have? If not, how many WCMMs could I have in there?

Thanks, Jonty

WCMM's too active. yo could have cherry shrimp and or amano shrimp

I know my local Pets@home sell Amano shrimp. How many could I have?

Also if I could find some cherry shrimp, how many of them? Can they mix?

i have 8wcmm in a 15 litre biorb, they are fine, they are well and have been for the last few months. i personally would get rid of it to be honest, its too small, i plan to get rid of mine, but i dont want to get rid of the fish, so its a waiting game for me

besides that you could get shrimp hapily, have plenty of live plants

yeah they can mix, about 20 shrimps will be fine with a small filter
Careful there, not 20 Amano shrimp, if it's permanent I would go for only maybe 3-5 amano shrimp if you cant find smaller species, but without other smaller shrimp (which could be pushed around too much by the amanos in such a small space). Keeping 20 amano shrimp would be just as bad as putting 20 WCMM's.

20 cherry shrimp or similar small shrimp would be OK though, but I wouldn't start with that many. They breed fast, and starting with 20 would over populate the tank pretty fast when they do start breeding.

Shrimp all need very good water conditions so make sure the tank is cycled.

Also shrimp are tropical and im not sure how they would fare in coldwater, since they do tend to be sensitive. I would say 4 armanos max, you could have more cherrys however. Armanos do not breed in freshwater wheras cherrys do, so it would also depend if you wanted shrimplets.

Amano shrimp are good down to around 18*C, and lower temporarily.

Cherry shrimp do fantastic down to around 10*C, and can survive just above freezing, but breed slower at around 18*C.

I was always told they were completly tropical and would die in lower temps, my armanos seemed less active in a lower temp when i turned it down for about a week or so. You learn something every day dont they say

There metabolism is linked to water temperature they are less active but live longer at lower temps :good:
